Possible online services disruption due to Internet related outage

A worldwide technology outage is causing disruption to some State of Illinois online systems.  We are aware of this issue and are diligently working on restoration.

New Users: Setup an ILogin Account

Follow the steps below to create a new account.

Create a New ILogin Account

  1. Navigate to the ILogin Sign In page.
  2. Click Sign up.
  3. Complete all required fields. Complete optional fields, as needed.
  4. Click Sign Up.

Notes:

  • If the user does not have an email address, go to FAQs page: What if I don't have an email account for suggestions.
  • There are specific domains that are not allowed for creating an account. If any of these domains are used, an error appears stating to provide an email address from a different domain.
  • If the password does not meet the password requirements, a message appears and ILogin prevents the user from creating the profile. Edit the password until it meets the criteria.

Activate ILogin Account

  1. On the Set up security methods menu, under the Email option, click Set up.
  2. The confirmation page appears telling the user to check their email. Note: This activation link is valid for 15 minutes and then these steps are required to be restarted.
  3. ILogin sends a verification email to the email address entered. Note: Check the Spam or Junk Mail folder the email has not been received.
  4. Open the email from State of Illinois. 
  5. Click Verify your email
  6. The Set Up security methods menu appears.

 

Set Up Security Methods

The Set up security methods menu offers multiple authentication methods. After successfully enrolling in a security method, a popup confirmation may appear.

After clicking the link in the ILogin activation email and adding a security method, the Set Up Later option allows users to setup the account at a later time. 

Specific steps for each method are presented in the following sections.

MFA Option: Set Up Google Authenticator

To setup using Google Authenticator, the Google Authenticator application needs to be installed on the mobile device.

  1. Click Google Authenticator from the Set up security methods screen.
  2. On a mobile phone, open the Google Authenticator application.
  3. Click Get Started.
  4. Click the + option.
  5. Select Scan a QR code. A scan rectangle appears.
  6. Navigate back to the ILogin Set up Google Authenticator page.
  7. Position the phone camera square over the QR code displayed in ILogin until it scans the link.
  8. Click Next in ILogin.
  9. Enter the application code shown on the Google Authenticator application in the Enter Code field.
  10. The Verify with your email screen appears. Navigate to the email and click Verify your email.

MFA Option: Set Up Okta Verify

To setup using Okta Verify, the Okta Verify application needs to be installed on the mobile device.

  1. Click Okta Verify from the Set up security methods screen.
  2. On a mobile phone, open the Okta Verify application.
  3. At the top, select the + plus sign.
  4. Select either Organization or Other (for individuals).
  5. Click Scan a QR code.
  6. Navigate back to the ILogin Set up Google Authenticator page.
  7. Position the phone camera square over the QR code displayed in ILogin until it scans the link.
  8. On the Account Added screen, click Done.
  9. The Verify with your email screen appears. Navigate to the email and click Verify your email.

MFA Option: Set Up Phone

Phone authentication is used to receive text (SMS) messages to a mobile phone or to receive voice calls on a landline.

  1. Click Phone from the Set up security methods screen.
  2. The Set up phone authentication screen appears.
  3. Based on user preference, select either SMS or Voice call.
  4. Select the applicable Country from the dropdown.
  5. Enter the user’s phone number.
  6. Click Receive a code via SMS/voice call.
  7. From the text message or voice call received, enter the code in the Enter Code field in ILogin.
  8. Click Verify.
  9. The Verify with your email screen appears. Navigate to the email and click Verify your email.

Add Optional MFA

Upon account activation, the user is prompted to setup additional multifactor authentication (MFA) methods to increase the security of the ILogin account. This is optional, but highly recommended to increase the security of the ILogin account.

After adding the security methods, click Set Up Later to complete the account setup and access the ILogin account. Remember:

  • If the user has a mobile phone, set up either the Phone - SMS (text) or Phone - Voice Call option.
  • If you the user does not have a mobile phone but does have a landline phone, use the Phone - Voice Call option.
  • If the user does not have a mobile or landline phone, ILogin uses the email or MFA for password recovery.
